  • Directive follows National Cyber Security Committee meeting chaired by Anwar.
  • Malaysian-developed TuJu navigation app encouraged as an alternative.

PUTRAJAYA, October 21 — The Malaysian government has ordered all civil servants to stop using the Waze navigation app immediately, citing national data security concerns.

Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar issued the directive following a National Cyber Security Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 20.

Ministry secretaries-general and department heads must ensure the ban is communicated and enforced across government agencies.

Anwar had earlier encouraged Malaysians to use the locally developed TuJu navigation app, citing concerns over Waze’s Israeli connections and potential risks involving citizens’ movement data.
