  • MDA seeks permanent positions for contract dentists.
  • Over 9,000 contract doctors to receive permanent posts.
  • Association warns of dentist shortages in public healthcare.

KUALA LUMPUR, October 24 — The Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) has urged the government to extend permanent employment opportunities to contract dental officers.

Following Budget 2027’s announcement of more than 9,000 permanent appointments for doctors. MDA president Dr Chong Zhen Feng said several groups of contract dentists had completed their service.

Without receiving contract extensions or permanent positions. The association warned that losing experienced dental professionals could affect public oral healthcare services.

Particularly for schoolchildren, rural communities and low-income families. MDA called for clearer career pathways and a sustainable workforce strategy to retain trained dentists within Malaysia’s public healthcare system.
