KUALA LUMPUR, October 27 — Malaysia’s 2026/2027 northeast monsoon begins Tuesday and is expected to continue until March 2027, bringing increased risks of flooding and severe weather.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasts three to five episodes of continuous heavy rainfall between November and January.

Particularly affecting low-lying areas and riverside communities. Strong northeast winds could also trigger rough seas and rising sea levels in the South China Sea.

MetMalaysia warned that rainfall may decrease towards March, potentially bringing hotter, drier conditions and extreme heatwaves linked to a strong El Niño phenomenon.

Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to prepare emergency supplies, secure important documents and remain alert to evacuation instructions from local authorities.

The public should monitor official weather forecasts and warnings through MetMalaysia’s website, myCuaca mobile application and hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
