Summary
  • CAAM identified three audit findings before the crash.
  • Five people died in the Sept 8 helicopter accident.
  • Investigators found no direct link between audit issues and crash.

KUALA LUMPUR, November 4 — The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) identified organisational deficiencies at Layang-Layang Aerospace days before a helicopter crash in Sarawak that killed five people.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke told Parliament that a Sept 1–4 audit uncovered issues involving manpower planning, maintenance records and emergency documentation.

However, he said the findings were not directly linked to the Sept 8 crash involving a Bolkow BO105 helicopter.

Preliminary investigations confirmed the pilot was qualified and the aircraft held valid airworthiness certificates, with an initial investigation report expected on Oct 16.
