KUALA LUMPUR, November 5 — Malaysia will offer a 50% toll discount nationwide on November 6 and 7 to ease travel costs during Deepavali celebrations.

Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the discount begins at midnight Friday and ends at 11.59pm Saturday. The initiative covers Class 1 private vehicles and Class 2 vehicles using the Penang Bridge.

However, toll plazas at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Tanjung Kupang near the Singapore border are excluded. The government expects to spend RM20.11 million compensating highway concessionaires.

The Malaysian Highway Authority will coordinate the discount with participating highway operators. Motorists are advised to plan journeys early, maintain sufficient Touch ’n Go balances and follow traffic updates.
