GEORGE TOWN, October 2 — Penang police have dismantled an alleged online “scratch and win” scam syndicate targeting victims in China and Cambodia, arresting 29 foreign nationals.
Police said three call centres in the Barat Daya district were raided on Sept 22, resulting in the arrests of 19 Chinese and 10 Cambodian nationals aged between 20 and 63.
The syndicate allegedly used LINE and Facebook Live to promote fraudulent prize schemes from luxury premises. Police seized 251 mobile phones, 17 laptops, computers and networking equipment.
Customer records, scratch cards and suspected fake documents. All suspects have been remanded until Oct 13 while investigations continue.
