BAYAN LEPAS, October 6 — Penang health authorities are on full alert for rabies following a recent human case in neighboring Kedah, state Health EXCO Daniel Gooi said Sunday.

Gooi said no new human or animal rabies cases had been reported in Penang, while health authorities were prepared for any possible cases.

He said the Health Department would continue working with veterinary authorities to monitor the situation.

According to Penang Health Department records, the state’s last human rabies cases were two cases recorded in 1975, while the last animal rabies case was recorded in 2015.

Gooi urged anyone bitten by an animal to seek medical treatment immediately.
