BAYAN LEPAS, October 6 — Penang issued 2,701 compounds for smoking offences at food premises in the first nine months of 2026, state Health EXCO Daniel Gooi said.
Another 254 compounds were issued to premises operators for offences involving no-smoking warning signs and smoking facilities.

Speaking at the state’s Clean Premises, Smoke-Free, or BeBAS, programme at Food Bayana, Gooi said enforcement must be supported by cooperation from businesses and the public.
Food Bayana was recognised as a Safe Food Hub after 19 food operators obtained the Health Ministry’s BeSS cleanliness and food-safety recognition. A statewide enforcement operation on Oct 3 also resulted in 57 compounds under Act 852.
