KUALA LUMPUR, October 9 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has called for schools in haze-affected areas to close if Air Pollutant Index (API) readings remain above 150 to 180 for prolonged periods.

The King urged the Education Ministry to prioritise students’ health and safety as air quality deteriorates across Malaysia.

He also called for protective measures for vulnerable groups, including elderly people and those with respiratory conditions.

Sultan Ibrahim advised the public to wear face masks and reduce outdoor activities, while Johor had already announced a two-day school closure following worsening haze conditions.
