KUALA LUMPUR, October 9 — The government will strengthen eight Special Border Economic Zones under Budget 2027, including developments aimed at supporting industrial and logistics activities connected to Penang and Kulim.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the 122-acre NCT InnoSphere development will serve as a hub for heavy vehicles, engineering, maintenance and logistics.
The development is intended to complement existing industries in Kulim and Penang while supporting trade activities along the Malaysia-Thailand border.
According to the Budget 2027 speech, trade through the Bukit Kayu Hitam–Sadao corridor reached RM27 billion during the first six months of 2026.
The government also plans to improve cargo movements through direct access between the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration Complex and an inland container depot.
