KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 – Hawkers are advised to make use of all the facilities provided by the government for enabling them to generate income and to reduce dependency on social assistance. Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani said infrastructure such as stalls were not fully utilised and some were left damaged and also unusable.
“We provided thousands of stalls for the convenience of hawkers, but it is disappointing when these stalls are not being used properly and left abandoned when there are many hawkers who have still not received such aid. In the current economic situation, we cannot fully depend on the government, especially those living in urban areas, it is difficult to feed our family with a low income,” said Johari.
Johari said the 1AZAM programme was the government’s ongoing effort to empower the target groups, in order for them to be independent in generating their own income. He said this after delivering aid to 48 1AZAM programme participants from the Titiwangsa parliamentary constituency at the Kampung Pandan Hawker Centre here on Sunday.
