ALOR SETAR, Sept 12 – The Funeral Ceremony of Sultan Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah was happening at Istana Anak Bukit here. The atmosphere of serenity surrounds Istana Anak Bukit here as Al-Quran verses fill the palace where the body of Sultan lie in state.
Since early morning, Istana staff dressed in black were busily carrying out their respective duties to ensure smooth preparation for the royal funeral from 8 am. The people will have the opportunity to pay their last respects to their sultan from 11 am till 12.30 pm followed by dignitaries at 12.30 pm till 1.30 pm in the throne room.
The cortege will leave Istana Anak Bukit at 2pm and would proceed along Lebuhraya Darulaman, Jalan Tun Razak, Lebuhraya Sultanah Bahiyah and Jalan Langgar to the Langgar Royal Mausoleum for the burial scheduled for 4 pm. Sultan Abdul Halim created history by reigning as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong twice, from 1970 to 1975 and from 2011 to 2016. Sultan Abdul Halim passed away at 2.30 pm yesterday at Istana Anak Bukit. His Royal Highness was 89 after a reign of 59 years. — PN
