KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today has announced that the Former Selangor Menteri Besar Muhammad Muhammad Taib has left PKR to rejoined Umno. The latest development in the Barisan Nasional main party was announced personally by the prime minister and UMNO president during a special press conference at the 39th floor of Menara Dato Onn at the Umno headquarters, Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur at 4.45pm today.
All Umno supreme council members were present. Muhd Taib or Mat Taib as he is fondly called, rejoins the party that he had served since 1964 before leaving in 2013. He quit the Islamist party in September 2015 and joined PAS in 2013, before leaving to join PKR in 2015. He then joined PKR as an ordinary member. He said he joined PKR as he wished for a strong alternative government to be formed. Mat Taib said he felt Pakatan Harapan had forgotten the Malays.
“I made this decision after five years. The reason I rejoined Umno was because I believed my struggles in the opposition were a waste of time. Malays must remain firm with Umno. The party has been with us from the beginning. I thank Prime Minister Najib Razak for accepting me again. I promise I will remain with the party’s leaders, especially in Selangor,” Muhd Taib said.
“Tan Sri Muhammad Muhamad Taib is aware that the struggles of the opposition parties particularly the PKR was in vain. His move is because he is struggling for the Malays, not because he wants position,” said Najib who explained that Muhammad also pledged to work together to ensure Umno’s success,” Najib said.
