PUTRAJAYA, September 29 – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) would like to clarify matters related to the government’s announcement on travel permission in the country. The COVID-19 Pandemic Management Special Committee meeting which is also the highest Committee to decide on the opening of the economic and non-economic sectors, was chaired by YAB Dato ‘Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister, on 22 September 2021.
He had stated that the government would allow the opening of tourist centers, islands or tourist areas as well as cross-state activities provided the country achieves 90 per cent adult vaccination rate (nationwide) based on data and analysis made by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH). The government will make an official announcement as soon as it gets a suitable date.
Based on records through the COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Assurance Special Committee (JKJAV), as of 28 September 2021, a total of 85.1% of the adult population has been fully vaccinated.
For now, cross -state permits for tourism activities are only allowed through the Langkawi Tourism Bubble only in accordance with the SOPs that have been set.
Meanwhile, domestic tourists are allowed to undertake Intra-State tourism activities (within the same state) for states that are in Phase 2 and above based on the National Rehabilitation Plan (VAT). Permission to conduct tourism activities is subject to SOPs that have been gazetted by the NSC.
