PENANG, October 20 – The Penang Consumers Association (CAP) urges the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Penang City Council (MBPP) to investigate and take immediate action to overcome the problem of paved roads that can threaten the safety of consumers in the state. The CAP survey found that the patch roads on some main routes such as Bukit Jambul, Bukit Gambir and some other roads were uneven, potholed, bumpy and had broken surfaces.
The condition of the road is very dangerous to motorcyclists who often collide with uneven cliffs, potholes, broken surfaces and bumps. Accidents can happen with other vehicles when they want to avoid road problems like this. In this regard, CAP hopes that JKR and MBPP will pay serious attention to the problem. Immediate action must be taken before an unwanted incident befalls the users who pass through the road every day.
Uneven road surface conditions will damage the suspension system and vehicle tires. Apart from that, it is also very dangerous to motorcyclists where the hole may not be visible at night especially during heavy rain. Detailed investigations and thorough monitoring need to be done to ensure that the roads in the state are in a safe condition and do not threaten the safety of users.
While the contractor who is given the contract to build, maintain, and maintain the road must be responsible for it. Repeated incidents of potholes only indicate that the work carried out is of poor quality. The contractor must be responsible for conducting more frequent inspections of all roads.
