GEORGE TOWN, March 12 – Digithon Youth Festival (DYF) 2022 is another programme that was initiated by Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and Computer Science Society TARUC Penang together in collaboration with Penang STEM, Penang Math Platform (PMP) and Tech Dome Penang. DYF is a festival that contains several talks, workshops, mini-hackathon and e-Sports competitions that are open to youth from all over Malaysia.
The festival that ended today serves as a stage for advancing collaboration and reviewing their skills, as well as offering their experience on the game they usually play, and the youth had win a few rewards as a result of this event. The festival had involved 1000 youth all over Malaysia in the workshops, talks, and competitions.
The closing ceremony started off with the Speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan (Branch Campus Head of TARUC Penang), followed by Dr. Gwee Sai Ling (General Manager of PYDC), and followed by the prize presentation. The closing ceremony ended with a speech by YB Soon Lip Chee (Penang State EXCO for Youth and Sports) and review by the organizing president Poh Choo Han.
Penang State EXCO for Youth and Sports, YB Soon Lip Chee mentioned that Digithon Youth Festival (DYF) had also adhered to PYDC vision of producing youth that focuses on integrity, marketability, and competency as well as our mission to educate, cultivate and empower youth towards a holistic development.
At the same time, according to studies, e-Sports can help youth enhance certain areas of the brain which are in charge of their attention, learning, and memory skills. e-Sports also encourage positive personal development because e-Sports develop the tendency to pursue high personal standards, with a focus on the value of effort, mastery, and self-improvement.
In addition to YB Soon, Penang Branch Campus Head of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Dr. Toh Guat Guan highlighted in her speech that most of the students today are fully immersed in the digital world and some of them are involved actively in e-Sports industry. This does not only involve gaming but many other aspects of digital technologies. The interest is growing, and it shows no sign of slowing down. She said, TARUC has continued to provide opportunities for students and the public to be exposed to many events beyond the classroom.
Besides, the General Manager of Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), Dr. Gwee Sai Ling cheered all the participants and encouraged them to join the festival. She mentioned that studying is not the only activity the youth should participate in, participating in extracurricular activities also helps to develop youth’s teamwork skills, leadership skills, and communication skills. PYDC will continuously provide opportunities to the youth to learn and develop further for the future of Penang.
