GEORGE TOWN, July 1 – Karpal Singh Lorong Delima 11 (Island Glades) Neighborhood Park meets the recreational and leisure needs of the residents with the installation of new solar lights. Penang State Youth and Sports EXCO, YB Soon Lip Chee, the installation of five (5) solar lampposts in the park will encourage locals to play sports at night more safely. According to YB Soon, apart from the basketball court at Taman Kejiranan Karpal Singh Lorong Delima 11 which is equipped with lighting facilities, the neighborhood park only has one (1) lamppost before the installation of the five (5) solar lampposts.
As a result, people can only exercise in the morning due to lack of lighting facilities. Since the State Government’s allocation is limited, I hope that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can work together with the state government to upgrade this neighborhood park by installing several solar lampposts, he said. He who chaired the solar lamp donation opening ceremony at Taman Kejiranan Karpal Singh Lorong Delima 11 yesterday, stressed that he had met Chan Lee Joo from Penang Lions Club Tanjung Sri Pinang in a ceremony last year.

Penang Lions Club has agreed to sponsor the installation of five (5) solar lampposts amounting to RM 35,000.00 after discussions with Penang Lions Club, Seri Delima ADUN and Penang City Council (MBPP),” he said. In this regard, he hopes that more non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or the private sector can work with the state government to continue such initiatives in order to develop the state of Penang together.
Seri Delima ADUN, YB Syerleena Abdul Rashid expressed her appreciation for the sponsorship from the Penang Lions Club and YB Soon’s commitment to develop the youth and sports sector in the state of Penang. I believe the installation of solar lights will enable the residents of the area and the youths in Seri Delima to play sports and jog at night, no longer limit them to play sports in the morning only,” he said.
Vice Council Chairperson of Multiple District 308, Dato Yeoh Moh Chai said, the sponsorship of the solar lighting program is in line with the mission of their organization which is to serve the community.
