The content, which expressed condolences for Haniyeh’s death, was mistakenly deleted due to an “operational error,” according to a Meta spokesperson.
The posts have now been restored and properly labeled as newsworthy. The incident prompted a meeting between Malaysia’s communications minister and Prime Minister’s Office representatives with Meta to seek an explanation. The Prime Minister’s Office criticized the removal as discriminatory and an unjust suppression of free expression, underscoring concerns over Meta’s content moderation policies.
