GEORGE TOWN, November 1 – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has called for stricter enforcement of existing lead regulations and the introduction of laws to eliminate lead in paint, following alarming test results on everyday products. Out of 40 samples tested, more than 20 were found to contain dangerous levels of lead, with one eye cosmetic sample exceeding the permitted lead content by almost 1,000 times.

CAP’s findings coincide with the World Health Organization’s International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, emphasizing the severe health risks associated with lead exposure, particularly for children and pregnant women. CAP President Mohideen Abdul Kader urged the government to take immediate action, stating that Malaysia must not be complacent in addressing the dangers of lead exposure.
