GOMBAK, November 6 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced today that authorities are formulating long-term maintenance strategies for the Gombak Tunnel, acknowledging Selangor’s vulnerability to natural disasters. Speaking at the ECRL Gombak Tunnel Breakthrough ceremony, Amirudin emphasized the state government’s commitment to public safety through consistent tunnel maintenance and inspections.
“Given the risk of natural disasters in certain areas of Selangor, we are implementing comprehensive maintenance plans. The state authorities have a duty to ensure the safety of these tunnels for public use,” he said. Following pollution incidents in Sungai Gombak last year, additional measures were introduced to mitigate environmental risks, with the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) closely monitoring construction compliance to minimize such risks.
Amirudin also addressed the ongoing flooding issues in areas like Sungai Cincin, where significant flooding has prompted plans for land acquisition and temporary retention ponds. The state has identified around 21 homes for temporary relocation to protect residents from recurring flood threats, ensuring both safety and long-term flood management solutions.
