CYBERJAYA, November 2 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced U Mobile Sdn. Bhd. as the mobile network operator responsible for implementing Malaysia’s second 5G network. This decision follows comprehensive reviews of technical and commercial factors to maximize the benefits of 5G technology for Malaysians, the local industry, and the country’s broader digital infrastructure.
With MCMC’s approval, U Mobile will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other mobile network operators (MNOs) to facilitate the deployment of the new network. This collaborative approach is expected to accelerate 5G adoption, bringing high-speed connectivity and advanced network capabilities to more regions across Malaysia.
MCMC emphasized its commitment to closely monitor U Mobile’s rollout of the second 5G network to ensure adherence to the regulatory requirements outlined in the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588). The commission will continue overseeing the implementation, intending to uphold quality, efficiency, and security across the network.
The second 5G network initiative is a pivotal step toward bolstering Malaysia’s digital landscape, enhancing connectivity and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and technological advancement across the nation.
