SHANGHAI, November 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will extend a formal invitation to President Xi Jinping to attend the Asean Summit and Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Plus China Summit in 2025, coinciding with Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean. The invitation will be issued during Anwar’s upcoming two-day visit to Beijing, where he is set to meet with President Xi, solidifying Malaysia’s leadership role in Asean and reinforcing its diplomatic ties with China.
According to Malaysia’s Ambassador to Beijing, Datuk Norman Muhamad, this face-to-face meeting provides an opportune moment for Malaysia to emphasize its commitment to regional stability and security in partnership with China. Since establishing a formal dialogue relationship in 1991, Asean and China have developed a strategic partnership focused on peace and prosperity, marked by a series of action plans and high-level summits that have significantly strengthened cooperation between the two regions.
