KUALA LUMPUR, November 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his successful comeback in the United States presidential election, expressing optimism for renewed collaboration between Malaysia and the US. In a statement on Facebook and X, Anwar highlighted the potential for a stronger bilateral relationship, stating that Malaysia is prepared to move forward with “optimism, collaboration, and shared purpose.”
Anwar emphasized the importance of the US as Malaysia’s largest foreign investor and a key partner in the Asia Pacific. He noted that the renewed administration under Trump opens new avenues for economic and diplomatic cooperation, benefiting both nations. “We look forward to working closely with the incoming president to foster mutual benefits for the people of both our nations,” he said.
As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chair in 2025, Anwar expressed hope for a deeper US engagement with Southeast Asia. He also called on the US to leverage its influence toward resolving ongoing crises, including the violence in Palestine and Ukraine, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to regional stability and humanitarian efforts.
