CYBERJAYA, November 18 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has called on courier companies across Malaysia to participate in the Courier Safety Passport Training Programme, aimed at enhancing worker safety and improving parcel handling efficiency. Speaking at the National Courier Day 2024 event, Fahmi emphasized the importance of equipping courier workers with essential safety skills to ensure effective and secure deliveries.

Fahmi praised the initiative, a collaboration between the Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC), the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), as a positive step for the industry. The programme, formalized through an MoU signed at the event, reflects a commitment to worker welfare, as the courier industry currently supports over 160,000 jobs and is set to grow in line with government targets.

Additionally, Fahmi encouraged AMEC to engage with the Ministry of Human Resources on implementing a progressive wage policy to ensure fair compensation for courier workers. He highlighted the industry’s growth, sharing that the current parcel rate of 26.1 per capita shows steady progress toward the government’s goal of 30 parcels per capita by 2025.
