KUALA LUMPUR, November 20 – Malaysia is preparing for an impactful presence at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, with over 250 delegates representing the country’s “whole-of-nation” approach to climate action. Leading with the theme “Shift for Sustainability – Climate Action Now!” the Malaysian Pavilion will highlight the country’s commitment to sustainability and its role as ASEAN’s incoming chair, showcasing policies and initiatives that foster regional collaboration and attract green investments.

The Malaysian delegation, headed by Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, will outline seven focus areas central to the country’s net-zero roadmap: Sustainable Finance & Economy, Trade & Industry, Natural Resources, Energy, Tech & Innovation, Sustainable Development, and Youth & Adaptation. These pillars emphasize Malaysia’s ambition to become a leader in green finance, sustainable trade, and climate tech while enhancing biodiversity conservation and climate resilience within local communities. “We are ready to unite with the global community, pushing boundaries to achieve bold sustainability goals,” said Nik Nazmi.

With support from entities like PETRONAS and Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s participation will emphasize its readiness to adopt cleaner technologies, establish a carbon tax by 2026, and further integrate the green economy as outlined in Budget 2025. By COP29, Malaysia aims to inspire international partnerships and investments aligned with its green growth vision, solidifying its position as a key player in global climate action.
