SEBERANG PERAI, November 13 — In a transformative redevelopment effort, Kampung Manis residents living in urban slum conditions will receive new, fully furnished apartments by 2027. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that each of the 177 households currently residing on Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) land will be offered an 850 sq ft apartment valued at approximately RM400,000 under a one-for-one exchange. The new complex will include modern amenities such as carparks, a swimming pool, and other community facilities, offering residents a significant lifestyle upgrade.

Phase one of the project will see the construction of a 33-story apartment block, allowing residents to relocate without any temporary displacement while their current homes are redeveloped. The new homes fall under the affordable housing category, distinct from low-cost units, highlighting the government’s commitment to raising living standards for Kampung Manis residents. “Our aim is to have the residents in their new homes before the next general election,” Loke stated.

The broader development on 36.025 acres of RAC land will also include 1,680 serviced apartments, commercial spaces, and retail facilities in addition to the 338 affordable housing units planned. The project, managed by Rivanis Ventures Sdn Bhd, a joint venture by Aspen Vision Development and Kerjaya Prospek Group, represents a significant step forward for Penang’s urban planning and community welfare initiatives.
