GEORGE TOWN, November 13 – The Penang Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 is set to make waves on November 23-24 at Straits Quay Retail Marina, marking a historic 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic ties. Organized by YB Wong Hon Wai and supported by the Consulate General of China in Penang and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), this year’s regatta will be a symbol of international unity and celebration, bringing together 1,619 participants from 61 teams across 12 countries, including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

The scenic new venue at Straits Quay offers a more accessible and lively atmosphere for spectators, adding to the event’s dynamic appeal. Highlighting a milestone in cross-cultural exchange, this year’s regatta will also welcome over 100 paddlers from Hong Kong arriving on the inaugural HK Express flight from Hong Kong to Penang on November 22. The event, a vibrant cultural and sporting showcase since the 1950s, reflects Penang’s rich history and evolution in the global dragon boat racing community.

“This festival is about more than just competition; it’s a celebration of unity and cultural heritage,” said YB Wong Hon Wai. Supported by Seiko as the official timing sponsor, Angsana as the official hotel, and Spin as the official apparel sponsor, the Penang Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 promises a lively weekend for locals and tourists alike.
