KUALA LUMPUR, November 24 – Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are making significant strides in global expansion, buoyed by Malaysia’s deepening diplomatic and trade ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). In a landmark development, three prominent Malaysian franchises—Hainan Village Malayan Kopitiam Group, Pink Tower Childcare Group, and Uni Smart Pest Control Group—signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MGSG International Limited in Bahrain.

Witnessed by His Excellency Shazryll Zahiran, Malaysian Ambassador to Bahrain, the signing took place at the Malaysian Embassy in Bahrain, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to fostering SME internationalisation. This initiative aligns with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-Bahrain diplomatic relations and the anticipated Malaysia-GCC Free Trade Agreement (FTA), expected to reduce trade barriers and open lucrative markets for Malaysian businesses.

At the “Malaysia Fair 2024” in Juffair, these SMEs showcased their flagship products and services, ranging from Hainanese culinary delights to eco-friendly pest control solutions, capturing the interest of Bahrain’s discerning market. With the GCC’s USD2 trillion economy and Malaysia’s leadership in the global halal sector, these partnerships mark a pivotal step for Malaysian SMEs in accessing new markets, enhancing brand recognition, and contributing to the growing bilateral trade, which reached RM639.1 million in 2023.
