BUKIT MERTAJAM, November 19 – Marhizan Johari, 51, pleaded not guilty to a charge of dangerous driving that led to the death of 21-year-old Lee Zi Rou when a container fell off his trailer and crushed her car on November 13. The incident occurred at Jalan Kebun Sireh, and Marhizan faces charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a potential prison sentence of five to 10 years, a maximum fine of RM50,000, and a five-year driving licence suspension.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Zulfadzly Hassan requested that bail be denied, citing Marhizan’s lack of remorse after flashing a peace sign during his remand. Magistrate Harith Mazlan denied bail and set January 24 for the submission of Puspakom’s crash analysis and medical reports. The accident also injured a 25-year-old man, and police have confirmed the driver tested negative for alcohol. Marhizan, who appeared unrepresented in court, remains in custody pending further investigation.
