KUALA LUMPUR, November 26 – Malaysia’s Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has announced a strategic plan to tackle the growing mismatch between the number of university graduates and the availability of high-paying jobs. As the first step, the government will introduce Malaysia’s inaugural wage guide to provide salary benchmarks across various industries, helping both graduates and employers make informed decisions about career and compensation.
In addition to the wage guide, Sim revealed that RM3 billion will be allocated for reskilling and upskilling programmes in 2025 to help workers transition into sectors impacted by technological changes. He also highlighted efforts to boost the domestic economy, with RM40 billion in grants for SMEs and RM120 billion in investments from government-linked corporations. Sim emphasized that the key issue is not the lack of jobs but the need to align graduates’ skills with the available roles to ensure sustainable career growth.
