PUTRAJAYA, November 27 — The Court of Appeal has postponed its ruling on the Malaysian Competition Commission’s (MyCC) appeal regarding a quashed RM86.77 million fine against Grab Inc. and its subsidiaries. The fine was initially imposed for alleged anti-competitive practices in the e-hailing sector but was annulled by the High Court in July 2023.
Justice Datuk S. Nantha Balan, leading a three-judge panel, stated that further deliberation is needed following arguments from MyCC’s counsel, Tan Sri Tommy Thomas, and Grab’s counsel, Datuk Malik Imtiaz Sarwar. Thomas argued that the judicial review sought by Grab was premature, while Malik Imtiaz maintained that the proposed fine had significant implications, warranting judicial review. A case management session tomorrow will determine the date for the decision.
