CYBERJAYA, November 27 — Malaysia’s media and advertising industries are calling for uniform regulations across all platforms to address challenges posed by unlicensed digital platforms. Unlike regulated local entities, global platforms often enjoy reduced compliance costs and tax obligations, leading to unfair competition. Industry leaders emphasize that such disparities hinder economic growth, innovation, and accountability in the sector.
As Malaysia moves toward implementing a governance framework for digital platforms, stakeholders underscore the importance of fostering a safe digital environment. They advocate for regulations that protect consumers, combat harmful content, and promote equity among players. Industry leaders, including Astro’s CEO Euan Smith and FDAM Chairman Dato’ Afdlin Shauki Aksan, have voiced support for policies ensuring ethical standards and fair competition, paving the way for a sustainable, transparent, and inclusive digital ecosystem.
