KUALA LUMPUR, November 28 — BlackBerry Limited has welcomed Canada’s $3.9 million (CAD) investment in the Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) to enhance Southeast Asia’s cybersecurity capabilities. The initiative, announced during the APEC Leaders’ Summit, aims to train 3,500 cyber defenders, including dedicated programs for women, in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.
This funding underscores Canada’s commitment to its Indo-Pacific strategy, fostering collaboration and strengthening regional defense against cyber threats. BlackBerry CEO John Giamatteo hailed the CCoE as a hub for knowledge sharing, threat intelligence, and workforce development, ensuring Malaysia’s position as a leader in cybersecurity excellence for ASEAN nations.
