KUALA LUMPUR, December 2 – ASWARA’s 30th Anniversary celebrations reached a dazzling peak at the Gala Night held at Pentas 1, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac), with the grand staging of the musical theatre production Sakti Merong Mahawangsa. This event not only honored the National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage’s (ASWARA) three-decade legacy but also showcased its commitment to preserving and promoting Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.
The musical, a revival of the legendary tale of Raja Merong Mahawangsa, weaves a gripping narrative of bravery and divine power. Depicting the unification of the Roman Prince and Chinese Princess amidst opposition from the formidable Sang Geroda, the production celebrates resilience and the historical birth of Kedah Zamin Turan, now modern-day Kedah. The performance featured over 100 talents, including luminaries such as Najua P. Ramlee, Hairi Safwan, and Fadhli Masoot, making it a collaborative masterpiece of ASWARA alumni, lecturers, and students.
As ASWARA marks its Pearl Jubilee, the institution reinforces its role as a guardian of Malaysia’s arts and culture while nurturing new talent. The Gala Night, highlighted by Sakti Merong Mahawangsa, stands as a testament to ASWARA’s dedication to artistic excellence and its enduring impact on the nation’s cultural legacy.
