KUALA LUMPUR, December 16  – The National Registration Department (NRD) has dismissed allegations of a data breach involving MyKad information for 17 million Malaysians, affirming the integrity of its systems. Internal investigations found no evidence of data leaks or unauthorized activities, with the department emphasizing its commitment to protecting personal data.

The allegations, first raised by dark web intelligence firm StealthMole, claimed MyKad samples were being sold online, sparking concerns over identity theft. The NRD is working closely with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) and the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate. Nacsa, calling the matter “serious,” urged Malaysians to stay vigilant, monitor accounts for unusual activity, and adopt strong cyber practices.
