PUTRAJAYA, December 17 — Malaysia will commence its first cross-border renewable energy (RE) export to Singapore this month, delivering 50 megawatts (MW) of green electricity through Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to Sembcorp Power Pte Ltd. The initiative, overseen by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra), follows a competitive bidding process via Energy Exchange Malaysia (ENEGEM) in June.

It marks the initial phase of the Cross Border Electricity Sales for Renewable Energy Scheme (CBES RE), which aims to scale capacity to 300 MW using the existing interconnection network between the two countries. The project underscores Malaysia’s commitment to energy transition and regional electricity integration under the Asean Power Grid, a priority as Malaysia prepares for its Asean Chairmanship in 2025.

A formal agreement between TNB and Sembcorp Power was signed earlier at a ceremony witnessed by representatives from both governments, reflecting Malaysia’s leadership in advancing sustainable energy collaboration in Southeast Asia.
