KUALA LUMPUR, December 17 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today inaugurated Malaysia’s National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office, a pivotal step in establishing the country as a regional hub for AI innovation and development. The office will focus on creating policies, advancing research, and crafting regulatory frameworks to bolster Malaysia’s digital economy. Among its first-year goals are a code of ethics for AI, a regulatory framework, and a five-year action plan leading to 2030.
This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s significant achievements in the tech sector, including RM71.1 billion in approved investments for information and communications in 2024. Strategic collaborations with tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft were also unveiled, reinforcing the nation’s growing reputation as a destination for cloud and AI infrastructure. “This is another historical moment in our digital transformation journey,” Anwar declared, emphasizing Malaysia’s ambition to lead the region in AI development.
