KUALA LUMPUR, December 28 – Malaysia Airlines’ brand-new Airbus A330neo, introduced just three days ago, has been grounded due to technical malfunctions, disrupting flight operations. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the aircraft encountered multiple issues after its inaugural flight to Melbourne on December 19, resulting in the cancellation of subsequent flights.

Malaysia Aviation Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail called the situation “embarrassing,” citing factory production flaws as the root cause. Airbus and Rolls-Royce have committed to resolving the problems, but Izham stressed the setback’s impact on the airline’s reputation and customers, particularly during the peak travel season. Temporary alternative aircraft will cover Melbourne flights until repairs are completed.
