KUALA LUMPUR, December 30 — The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) clarified today that any proposal for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve his remaining prison sentence under house arrest must follow established legal protocols and be submitted to the Pardons Board chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The AGC stated that all clemency applications concerning offences in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya must adhere strictly to Federal Constitution procedures.
This clarification follows public speculation regarding Najib’s eligibility for a pardon or alternative sentencing arrangements. Najib, serving a 12-year sentence for corruption in the SRC International case, recently lost a legal bid involving claims of a purported royal addendum to his case. The Court of Appeal is scheduled to hear his appeal on January 6, as discussions continue about his legal options.
