PETALING JAYA, January 2 — Rapid KL set a new milestone on New Year’s Eve, transporting nearly 1.5 million passengers in a single day across its rail and bus networks. According to Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, 1.27 million passengers utilized the five rail networks, while 207,226 opted for bus and demand responsive transit (DRT) services, marking a 30% increase in daily ridership.
The Kajang MRT line led with 368,018 passengers, followed by the Kelana Jaya LRT (345,791) and Ampang-Sri Petaling LRT (244,878). Prasarana Group CEO Azharuddin Mat Sah attributed the surge to extended operating hours for New Year’s celebrations, stating, “This success demonstrates the skill and efficiency of Rapid KL staff in serving the public and boosting confidence in our public transport system.”
