PUTRAJAYA, January 9 — The Immigration Department has assured that the new Quick Response (QR) code system implemented at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) autogates will maintain stringent security measures. Designed to expedite clearance, the system requires foreign nationals to meet strict criteria, including being free of watchlists and blacklists and submitting a Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), except for exempted Singaporeans.

Biometric and facial recognition checks embedded in passport chips further bolster the security protocols. The trial, which began yesterday across 40 autogate lanes at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, reduces immigration clearance time to as little as five to seven seconds, a significant improvement over traditional gates. Catering to citizens of 63 countries and Malaysians, the system has separate lanes for locals and foreigners.

Enhanced monitoring procedures, including special teams for high-traffic nationalities, and requirements like return tickets and valid accommodation proof, ensure Malaysia’s entry points remain secure and efficient.
