PUTRAJAYA, January 10 — Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair for 2025 is set to deliver significant economic benefits, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has announced. Hosting 323 ASEAN-related meetings throughout the year, including the ASEAN Summit in May, is expected to bolster industries such as hospitality, tourism, and local crafts.
Representatives from ASEAN nations, GCC countries, and Dialogue Partners are anticipated to attend, providing opportunities for showcasing and selling Malaysian products. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed ministries to prioritize local handicrafts as event souvenirs, adding value to the domestic economy. Fahmi also emphasized the importance of clear communication about ASEAN’s outcomes to ensure public engagement.
Under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” Malaysia’s chairmanship aims to foster regional unity and economic prosperity.
