KUALA LUMPUR, January 8 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted an audience to Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong yesterday at Istana Negara. The meeting, held in Dewan Seri Mahkota, lasted nearly an hour and included discussions on strengthening bilateral relations. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir were also in attendance.
Wong, accompanied by his wife Loo Tze Lui, is in Malaysia for the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. The two-day visit will include an official welcoming ceremony in Putrajaya and the signing of key agreements, including the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and other collaborative initiatives on education, climate change, and transnational crime.
This year marks 60 years of diplomatic ties, with Malaysia-Singapore bilateral trade reaching RM360.12 billion in 2024, reflecting a 6.7% year-on-year growth.
