BUKIT MERTAJAM, January 13 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed claims that the government concealed documents related to the “royal addendum” concerning former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s potential house arrest. Speaking at the Muhibbah Madani programme, Anwar clarified that the addendum, issued under the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was forwarded to Istana Negara following the monarch’s transition last year.
Anwar emphasized that the addendum was handled appropriately through the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) and not by him or any Pardons Board members. “This matter is not hidden; it operates within legal processes,” he stated, adding that the final decision on Najib’s case rests with the Agong, who chairs the Pardons Board meetings. He confirmed that the board had twice postponed decisions on Najib’s pardon and reduced his sentence and fine earlier.
The Prime Minister also criticised the Opposition for politicising the issue, accusing them of shifting their stance on Najib for political gain. “Najib’s legal process and detention occurred under previous administrations, not mine,” he asserted, reiterating the importance of integrity and adherence to legal protocols in the matter.
