KUALA LUMPUR, January 17 – Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin is under police investigation for alleged criminal defamation and offensive communication related to his remarks on a purported additional document regarding former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that a team from the Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit will record Khairy’s statement today in Damansara, Selangor.
The investigation, conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, follows two police reports lodged against Khairy. The reports, filed by the political secretaries of Ministers Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, accuse Khairy of making false and defamatory statements that have caused public unease and could threaten national peace.
Azalina’s political secretary, Datuk Suraya Yaacob, specifically denied claims that Azalina was involved in concealing the document, calling the allegations baseless and misleading.
