ABU DHABI, January 18 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the need for Malaysia to accelerate its digital transformation, focusing on blockchain, cryptocurrency, and financial technology (fintech). Speaking at the conclusion of his UAE visit, Anwar highlighted the importance of modernising Malaysia’s economic and financial frameworks to stay competitive in the digital age.

“We must move beyond outdated business models and focus on forward-thinking policies,” Anwar said, urging agencies like the Securities Commission, Treasury, and Bank Negara to ensure Malaysia remains aligned with global digital advancements. He emphasised the transformative potential of fintech, urging Malaysia to learn from nations like the UAE, which have already made significant strides in blockchain and AI integration.

Anwar, who also serves as Minister of Finance, pointed out that this innovation will reshape the financial landscape and create opportunities for collaboration. He called for proactive steps to embrace digital finance while maintaining safeguards to protect public interests, positioning Malaysia as a leader in the global digital economy.
