LANGKAWI, January 18 — Foreign ministers from Southeast Asia have started arriving in Langkawi ahead of the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM), scheduled for today, January 18 and tomorrow, January 19. The retreat, hosted at the Langkawi International Convention Centre, marks Malaysia’s first major meeting as Asean Chair for 2025, setting a strategic direction for the region in the coming year.
The event will bring together foreign ministers and representatives from the 10 Asean member states, with Timor-Leste attending as an observer. Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, will join discussions on regional and international issues of shared concern. Over 200 delegates are expected to participate, with the retreat kicking off a year of over 300 key meetings under Malaysia’s chairmanship, the fifth since Asean’s establishment in 1967.
