IPOH, February 2 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the development of Ipoh Sentral, a RM6.26 billion transit-oriented project set to transform the city’s landscape. Located behind the iconic Ipoh Railway Station, the project will integrate public transportation with mixed-use developments, including housing, business, and recreational facilities.
The first phase, covering 2.55 hectares, will focus on enhancing pedestrian walkways, cycling routes, and green spaces while preserving Ipoh’s cultural and heritage landmarks. Construction is expected to begin within six months and be completed in 24 months. The second phase, spanning 24.7 hectares, will include serviced apartments, commercial spaces, a hotel, and community facilities, with a 20-year timeline for full completion. The Ipoh Railway Station, a heritage landmark, will remain untouched, reflecting its historical significance.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed today between key stakeholders, marking a milestone in federal and state collaboration. Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad expressed satisfaction with the progress and pledged to expedite the project’s approval processes, emphasizing its potential to enhance Ipoh’s urban efficiency and sustainability.
