BANGI, February 2 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced Malaysia’s ambitious goal to reclaim its position as the world’s leading rubber producer within the next decade. Speaking at the 2025 RISDA Field Officers Convention, Zahid emphasized the importance of comprehensive replanting efforts and innovation to revitalize the rubber industry.

With 400,000 hectares of Malaysia’s 800,000 hectares of rubber plantations in need of replanting, Zahid stressed the use of high-quality saplings and automated tapping methods to enhance productivity. Zahid also highlighted plans to boost the value of rubber wood by promoting its use in the treated furniture market, reducing reliance on government funding for the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA).

Reflecting on Malaysia’s decline to 10th place among global rubber producers, he expressed confidence in the sector’s potential, driven by innovation, technology, and sustainable practices. “With dedication and commitment, Malaysia can reclaim its top spot in the global rubber industry,” he affirmed.
