KUALA LUMPUR, February 3 – Petronas has announced plans to decommission the 500km Sabah-Sarawak gas pipeline linking Kimanis in Sabah to Bintulu in Sarawak, according to its latest activity outlook report. The pipeline, operational since 2014, has faced several challenges, including a force majeure event in 2022 following a leak that led to the temporary shutdown of gas supply to the Dua Malaysia LNG terminal.
As part of its decommissioning strategy over the next three years, Petronas will also undertake the plugging and abandonment of approximately 153 wells and the removal of 37 offshore facilities. This move aligns with the company’s broader efforts to ensure safety, environmental responsibility, and operational efficiency across its infrastructure.
